Welcome to Year 6!

Welcome to our Year 6 class page. This page will keep you up to date with what is happening in our classroom and give you an overview of what your child will be learning this half term. Summer 1 is a an exciting time in Year 6 as it involves the SATs tests starting on the 11th May. We are looking forward to exploring some important topics together while continuing to build independence, confidence and resilience.

What We’re Learning This Half Term

In English, children are building tension and creating mood in their writing based on Francis and Alma.

In Maths, we begin by revisiting and securing our understanding of place value and applying this knowledge when converting between units of measure as well as learning about shape, space and measure.

In Science, our topic is Light. Children will learn about how we see, understanding that light travels in a straight line, that white light can be split up to form a spectrum and how shadows are created and change.

In Geography, our focus is Climate change. We are studying the causes and effects of climate change.

In Art, pupils will look at rainforest paintings by Henry Rousseau. They will explore colour, line, tone as well as foreground, midground and background.

In PE, indoor lessons will focus on badminton, developing hand–eye coordination, serving and returning the ball, and moving around to receive the ball.

In Computing, children will continue to develop their coding skills including debugging, documenting and creating a text-based adventure game.

Other Areas of Learning

Children will continue their ukulele lessons every Thursday afternoon. In RE, pupils will be developing their understanding of the different values that people live by.
