Remote Learning

We are now using Tapestry (for Early Years) and Class Dojo (for Years 1 to 6) to provide remote learning in the event that your child needs to self-isolate or if their class or year group needs to close temporarily due to COVID-19. 

You should all have received a link to join up but if you are experiencing difficulties please email the year group email address - as set out below:

You will be able to view a copy of our Remote Learning Policy below, which sets out how we will provide learning for children who are not able to be in school but are otherwise well enough to learn. 

Please send all queries about learning (including remote learning and homework) to the year group email or to the teacher via the message function on Class Dojo. Please do not use these for general queries, complaints or anything regarding behaviour or safeguarding - these should be sent to office@whitecote.co.uk and will be dealt with by the appropriate member of staff or the senior leadership team. 

Please also note that messages may not be responded to immediately, but you will receive a response within the timeframe specified in the remote learning policy. We do not expect staff to respond outside of normal working hours, but we appreciate that your own commitments might mean that you need to send messages outside of these times.

To help you and your child with your home learning, we've put together a structure that you can follow.

Here is a list of useful websites for home learning recommended by the Department for Education

English

  • AudibleAll children’s audiobooks are available for free while schools are closed

  • AuthorfyAccess to masterclasses on texts from a range of authors, including videos from the authors and activities linked to novels.

  • BookfinderA site with recommended booklists, categorised by age range and topic, including fiction and non-fiction. Family activities are included in the ‘Home Time’ section.

  • Classroom SecretsDownloadable resource packs which cover a range of subjects, including reading and writing.

  • English Masterydownloadable resource books providing 8 weeks of activities

  • Literacy Sheddownloadable resource packs with tasks based on video clips on YouTube

  • Pobble365a new image is published each day as a basis for creative writing. Story starters, questions and drawing ideas are provided.

  • Purple Mashfree during the school closure period. Each week, a selection of daily activities is produced on different subjects, including comprehension and grammar.

  • Storytime with Nickavailable from Monday 20 April. Films of well-loved stories read by Nick Cannon, a trained actor, teacher and trainer.

  • The Day Newslettera daily newsletter for parents and carers at home with children, helping to enrich learning with real-world knowledge and skills.

Maths

  • Hamilton Trust downloadable resource packs with teacher guidance. A week’s worth of resources is provided for each year group.

  • Maths Mastery downloadable guidance and resource packs for parents and pupils.

  • NRICHa range of activities. Some are interactive and some are to be completed offline. Activities are categorised by age range.

  • Numberblocks videos for numeracy development designed for children aged 0 to 6. There are fun activities that can be applied to everyday life and play.

  • Top marksa range of interactive maths games categorised by age group.

Science

  • BBC Bitesize interactive resources covering the primary science curriculum.

  • STEM learning (home learning) an online resource bank, which links to resources on external websites. The site features a live chat function offering support from subject experts. New home learning resources are being developed.

PE

  • Boogie Beebies videos that get younger children up and dancing with CBeebies presenters.

  • Disney 10 Minute Shakeups 10-minute videos based on Disney films that count towards a child’s 60 active minutes per day.

  • Super Movers videos which help children move while they learn. They support curriculum subjects, including maths and English.

  • #ThisIsPE videos delivered by teachers focussing on the PE curriculum which are accessible on YouTube.

Mental Wellbeing

  • BPS advice on dealing with school closures and talking to children about COVID-19

  • MindEd an educational resource for all adults on children and young people’s mental health

Special Educational Need and Disabilities

  • Brain Parade a visual instruction app, including flash cards and picture-choosing games, for children with autism and special needs.

  • HelpKidzLearn a collection of games and resources designed for a range of educational needs and stages. It includes provision for school closure

  • Sensory App House Ltd a range of apps are available for pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) or Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD). All are interactive and many do not require significant coordination abilities.

  • Visuals2Go an all-in-one app created to support people with communication and learning difficulties. For verbal and non-verbal learners.
